"bullpens" revolted, attacked the guards, overpowered them and set fire 'to the buildings, and the prison governor had to call out the fire department and militia force. The latter surrounded the pen and pointed their rifles at the frenzied convicts, who were recaptured after tierce struggles. The convicts' lack of arms prevented bloodshed.
