DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Defence Rifle Club was held on Monday. In its first annual report and balancej sheet, the committee congratulated members on the wonderful success of the j club in this its first year, financially, ( and as a shooting unit. The report adds: "As a shooting unit you have , tfhown that you can put a team in the | field equal to anything in Taranaki, and your committee hope that in the near ) future clubs in other parts of the Dominion will ltave to consider you seriously when meeting you in teams match j competitions. During the past year teams from your club fired six matches | against other clubs, four of which were' | won and two lost. Teams from your club also" took first and tied for second j prize in the teams match competition at I the Taranaki Rifle Association meeting. Several of the club members were also prize winners, both at the Taranaki I meeting and at Trentham. The committee wish to congratulate Rifleman Evans on having won the clubs championship, and also Rifleman Bruce on having won the competition for the presidents gold medal. . . . Through j the New Zealand Defence Rifle Club's exi eeutive, irifte clubs have secured free railj ™.T passes up to 100 miles, ■equal rights with Territorials to use the Government j rifle ranges, and the election of three 1 rifle club members to the Dominion Rifle Association executive, who will assist in drawing up the programme for the Trentham meeting. The bulls-eye target will in all probability be used for the championship series this year at Trentham. whil<! the minimum strength of | the .rifle clubs will be 15 instead of 30 as at present, which will greatly assist the formation of clubs in country districts. The kalaiice-s'heet, vou will notice, shows a credit-balance of £2l 15s Ad. which must be considered very satisfactory. Your committee would like to thank the j ladies who 'have assisted the club both socially and financially during the past | year, am. hope they will continue to do so in the 'future."
