PETROLEUM.
(X.Z.) OIL WELLS, LTD, The three .bores at Moturoa are all flowing well. Good progress is being made with the Bell Block boring preparations. Yesterday the first load was delivered in the ground, and the erection of the derricks will be proceeded with immediately. It is expected that all the plant required for at least one of these bores will be on the ground this week. It is to be quickly followed by the plant for the other one. Boring on these properties will, it is expected, commence by the end of September. It is understood that the first shipment of the refinery plant is aboard the Ivia Ora, which left Londot oil August 1. ° COLONIAL PROGRESS. Mr. J. D. Henry was recently interviewed by the London Standard in regard to oil-driven battleships. Inter alia, lie stated that the general pubiie were scarcely aware of the great progress which was being made in the discovery of new oil fields in the colonies. Xew Zealand was pushing ahead, Next year that country would have its firs* refinery. Oil had been discovered at four or five different points, and the people of the Dominion had themselves invested about a quarter of a million in the oil business during the past six months. India (Burmah) and Canada continued to give the largest production. The oilbearing islands of the Empire included Trinidad, Barbadoes, Newfoundland, Australia and Papua, and several other small islands in the Antipodes, while it was believed that important discoveries of oil would shortly be made in Africa. The Standard concludes:—Mr, Henry, who has made two trips round the world during the past fifteen months, will on * Monday leave London for Russia, where he will visit practically all the oil fields of the Caucasus.
