An escort, numbering anything froni thirty to fifty men, walking*cfose in the rear of one or two individuals, with a running fire of questions arid comments, has been a usual spectacle from the Waihi railway station. Oil the arrival of the evening train last night there was an addition torthe escort to two employees on their return from Waikino, Sergeant Wohlmann and three constables swelling the number. A procession comprising fifty men followed close upon the heels of the two men. On reaching the residence of one of the men a few of the attendants and one constable dropped out. The rest followed the solitary individual, who maintained his position in ; the van, and he led the procession till, it arrived at his home. Here the escort disbanded. The questions and comments by the escort last evening were not characterised by any remarks peculiar to previous escorts. Indeed, there was a marked reticence, and as to the men who were followed their attitude was one of marked indifference,
