ROUGH PASSAGE.
HAUPIRI'S BOATS STOVE IN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. The Union Company's coastal steamer Haupiri, which has met with rough weather in working the coast, experienced tempestuous seas at Waipiri Bay on Saturday, resulting in her launch, valued at £10(K), being irretrievably smashed on the rocks in the breakers. Two of the. ship's cargo boats were washed ashore and badly damaged. The Haupiri is putting out to sea without the services of three officers, who were washed ashore in the boats. The third mate narrowly escaped drowning, owing to the breaking of a line.
