INTER-COLLEGE " TOURNAMENT. WANGANUI (4) v. WELLINGTON (3).. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. The annual inter-college triangular Rugby tournament was concluded today, the Wanganui Collegiate School winning. The local team met Wellington College on a perfect ground, defeat-1 iirg them by four points to three., Against the wind in the first spell Wanganui had the better of the game, but with no result, no score being .registered!.' Wellington, liko Wanganui, played better against the wind than with it, and a few minntcs after the commencement Matheson scored in a fair position. Stainton's kick failed. Within eight minutes of time Faber potted a goal in front of the posts under difficulties. The ball struck the upright just above the crossbar and cannoned inwards amid a scene of the wildest enthusiasm. These -were the only scores in a decidedly strenuous and very interesting game, of which Wellington had slightly the better. A feature throughout the game was the splendid tackling and general defensive work of the Wellington backs, who kept the local backs quiet. THE AMATEUR GAME. Wellington, Friday. At a complimentary dinner given to the Stratford School .football team last night, Mr. .Parkinson, headmaster of Newtown School (presiding), expressed' the hope that the boys would assist the Rugby Union in putting down the professional game. j Mr. Hine, M.P., said he felt sure thatj Rugby was doomed, but he expressed the hope that the boys would grow up a.nd keenly resent any infringement on genuine amateur sport. i Mr. Hales (Wellington Union) and Mr. Wylie (New Zealand Union) also advised the boys to stick to amateurism. The Wanganui team to meet Wellington to-day has been strengthened by the inclusion of the •ox-Wellington representative Mitchinso.n, now a resident of Tokomaru. Tilyard, who was reckoned an unlikely player, has decided to don the jersey, and Wanganui is confident that the blacks will have to do their best to avoid defeat to-day. THE LEAGUE GAME. rri r „ .
