Share quotations: Junction, 21s and e*«. NEWTON KING'S WjijmCLY REPORT. On Thursday, 15th inst., I had a very good attendance on the Upper Manaia road for Mrs. G. J. Denipsey's clearing sale. Good quality dairy cows and close to profit were in very strong demand, realising from £lO to £l6, second grade £8 10s to £9 15s, late calvers £4 10s to £7 10s.
At Kaponga on Friday, lfith inst., in connection with the Uawcra branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Co., I held a very successful sale on account of the Public Trustee in the estate of W. Swadling. The cattle were in tip-top condition, all young, and with a good strain of Holstein. Bidding was very keen right through, all good quality'cows realising from £l3 to £'2o, second grade £7 10s to £ll, empty cows £4 10s, springing heifers £5 10s to £l2, sundries, pigs and horses at very satisfactory rates. At the Waiwakaiho yards on the same day I had a very heavy yarding of cattle, the majority being dairy cattle, which were in very good demand. At the Ilaymarket, New Plymouth, on Saturday, 17th inst., pigs were in good demand, realising for slips from 13s to £l, stores £1 3s Gd to £1 13s Gd, porkers £2 3s, good weaners 12a. A gig, mare and harness, in the estate of the late J. Mcintosh, brought £63. At Urenui on Monday, 19tli, I had a rery good entry of all classes, with a good attendance of buyers from all parts, some very nice. cattle being yarded from the back country,.A choice pen of fat cows from the Awakino. was especially fine. The demand for all classes, particularly dairy cattle, was very good, all stock, with the exception of a small pen of empty heifers, being sold at the hammer at the following rates:—Store cows £3 3s to £4 14s, fat cows (good) £6 13s to £7 lis, forward bullocks £7 Us Gd, yearling heifers £'2 12s (id to £4 3s, small £1 10s, yearling steers £2 4s 6d to £2 14s 6d, 2-year colored steers £3 ss, good £3 las fid to £3 17s, empty heifers £4 to £4 2s Gd, 2% to 3-year steers £4 10s, £4 18s to £5 ss, springing heifers £5 15s to £lO, dairy cows (good quality) £7 15s to £9 10s, aged £4 5s to £5 2s 6d, store wethers .17s 6d, pony £lO ss, breeding sows £2 10s to £4 15s, store pigs £1 3s. At Stratford on Tuesday, 20th inst., at my fortnightly cattle sale, I had a good entry and a large attendance of the, public, including buyers from the Waikato. An advertised special entry from Mr. R. H. Phillips of 450 colored yearlings and 2-year empty heifers came forward in excellent condition, being sold without reserve after good competition at the following rates:—Holstein 2-year empty heifers £5 to £5 Us, yearling Holstein heifers £3 16s to £4 6s, yearling Jersey heifers (best) £4 10s to £5 la, others £3 15s to £4 ss. Several lines of empty heifers were yarded on account of other vendors, selling after spirited competition. Besl yearling heifers made from £3 12s to £4, others £1 lGs to £2 13s 6d, yearling steers £2 7s Gd to £2 13s, IS-months steers £3 12s, 2-year steers (good) £4 to £4 10s, empty Jer-aey-I-lolstein heifers £4 18s to £5 Gs Gd, good grade £3 19s to £4 10s, mixed yearlings £1 19s to £3 (according to quality), bulls £2 12s to £4, store cows £2 18s to £3 15s Gd, good forward oow» £5 to £5 16s, fat cows (in demand) £G 10s to £7 2s, small 2-year heifers in calf £3 10s, fat bullocks £8 2s. X had a good entry of dairy cattle in my springing heifer yards, about 150 head being oflered. Best quality cows realised from £8 10s to £ll, others £5 15s to £7 15s, springing .heifers (best) £7 us to £9 10s,' others £5 2s Gd to £6 ss. In my Stony River yards on Wednesday I had a very heavy entry of cattle, about 450 head of mixed yearlings. Buyers were present in good numbers from all parts of Taranaki, and created an excellent demand for all classes. All store cattle .were cleared during the day. The sale commenced with the yearling cattle, the whole of which were sold under the hammer. LOAN & MERCANTILE CO.'S REPORT. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. and Reduced (Stratford branch) report as follows: We held our usual combined sale, in conjunction with Messrs W. 11. 11. Youn" and Co.) at our Stratford yards on Tuesday last, 27th inst. There was a fair yarding consisting of about 750 head of cattle, a large percentage of which, were colored yearling heifers, showing quality, also a good number «f springing heifers and dairy cows. The attendance was very large, including a good many local operators, as welf as sis outside buyers, from HuntervilV, Marton and Palmerston North. Most of the yarding was disposed of with satisfactory results to vendors. Prices realised were as follows:— Small yearlings (mixed) 24s to "28s, ordinary Shorthorn heifers 50s to 52s Gd, medium sorts 55s to GOs, good well-grown yearlino i, ■ fers from 61s Od to 60s (id, yearli

We oil'ered a nice well-done line of ewe hoggets, which attracted spirited bidding, falling to the bid of a Toko client at 15s. Wether hoggets made lis lid, forward lines 12s (id. We offered on account of Mr. W. H. Norton his dairy herd, a good many of which were backward. Bidding, however, was good for anything showing quality. Late and backward 80s to 120s, close up 130s to 1955, Ilolstein bull 80s, gelding (aged) £ll. During the week we have placed a good deal of stock at the following prices:—2-vear-old steers 80s to 85s Gd, yearling steers 40s to 52s Gd, fat cows 123s to 133s (id, dairy cows (herds) £B, £8 10s, £9 10s. A nice line of colored heifers sold at 90s, 20-montlis empty heifers( small) 70s. Small hoggets, 9s to 12s, 4 and C-tootli ewes 15s to 19s, MATTHEWS. BENNETT & CO.'S REPORT.
Matthews, Bennett and Co. report that therew as a fair 'yarding of cattle in their Inglewood yards on Wednesday last. Prices were about the same as at late sales:—Yearlings (small) 38s to £'2 ss, weaners (good) £2 8s to £3, J4olstein weaners (good) £4, Jersey weaners £4 7s, store cows £2 10s to £3 15s, bulls £3 17s, springing heifers £6 to £lO 15s, sows £fi to £9. The following are the paddock sales' during the week:—Dairy cows £9 to £lO 10s, springing heifers (good) £9,, mixed hoggetts 13s, ewe hoggets 14s 6d, empty heifers £4 5s to £5 2s <sd. SOUTHERN MARKETS. ADDINGTON. At Addington there were fair entries of stock and a good attendance. Fat catle were easier, and fat sheep barely maintained last week's value. Store sheep were in good demand, especially ewe hoggets. Bacon pigs were rather easier, and porkers firmer. Store sheep—Hoggets (good wethers) 14s 6d to 15s 6d, mixed ewes 14s to 15s 6d, halfbred ewes 17s Sd, ewe hoggets 10s (id to 19s 7d, culls 8s 6d. Wethers, two-tooths (low condition) 14s sd, ewes (sound-mouthed sorts) 18s to 20s, four and failing-mouth 14s 6d to 17s, aged sorts 13s to 14a, dry ewes (aged) 21s 4d, ewes (with lambs) 9s to 9s 9d.Fat sheep—Extra prime wethers to 295, prime 20s 6d to 24s 6d, others 18s to 20s, extra prime ewes to 24s 9d, prime 17s 6d to 235, others 14s 2d to 17s, hog•gets 15s lOd to 22« 3d, prime merino wethers 18s 9d to 24s 3d, others 12s to 18s. Fat cattle —The range of prices was 25s to 38s per 1001b. Steers realised £8 7s Od to £l2, extra to £25, heifers £7 7s Gd to £l2 ss, cows £6 to £ll 12s 6d. Store ; cattle —Fifteen to 18-months sorts £2 lis to £3 lis, two-year steers £5 10s, 2-year heifers £4 10s, 3-year steers £0 4s, threcyear heifers £5 7s, cows £2 to £4 ss. Dairy cows made £4 10s to £lO.
Pigs—Choppers made £3 2s (kl to £5 10s, one extra realising £B, heavy baconers 70s to 77s 6d, lighter 50s to 65s (or equal to. 5d to 5%d per lb). The best porkers realised 47e to 525, lighter sorts 40s to 45s (equivalent to 5»/ 3 d per IB). There was a fair entry of stores, and a good demand for all classes. Large sorts made 40s to 455, smaller 28s to 355, a line of medium quality realising 32s 6d. A line of young sorts brought to £3 ss. Small rough weaners brought 20s (id, and good sorts 17s to 245. JURNSIDE. At Burnside 240 fat cattle were yarded. There was a, very brisk demand, but prices were 15s to £2 lower than last week's rates. The quality on the whole was good. Extra good bullocks £l6 10s to £lB 17s (id, good £l3 to £ls, medium £ll to £l2. Fat sheep—Best wethers 23s to 25s 6d, exWa prime to 29s Od, medium 20s 6d to 225, best ewes 18s to 21s, extra prime to 275, medium 14s to 16s. Fat lambs—Best 15s to 17s 9d, extra to 235, medium lis 9d to 14s. JOIINSONVILLE. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Johnsonville sale as follows:—A good entry of bullocks and sheep came forward, battle sold readily, but sheep met a rather dragging sale. Extra prime heavy bullocks £l2 15s, £l2, £ll 12s 6d; prime bullocks £lO 2s 6d to £lO 12s 6d, light £9, prime cows and heifers £8 to £B' 17s 6d, lighter £7 to £7 16s, vcalers 33s to 345, extra prime wethers 25s 7d, prime wethers 22s to 235, prime ewes 20s 4d to 21s.
