FLOODS IN ENGLAND.
THE WATER ABATING. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright London, August 28. The water is abating at Norwich. Business is in a chaotic condition. Eight thousand are homeless. While a woman and two children were being rescued through a window, one child fell and was drowned. A number' of houses collapsed. A man engaged in rescue work was drowned. THE WATERS SUBSIDING. IMPROVED WEATHER CONDITIONS. Received 29, 11.30 p.m. London, August 29. The floods arc everywhere subsiding, and the railways are reopening. A relief fund has been opened at Norwich. Column's, the mustard manufacturers, are contributing £]ouo. A square mile of streets is inundated. Eighty bridges in East Anglia were destroyed. Dr. Mill attributes August's persistent rain to Rome obscure variation in the ocean temperature. It is desirable, with a view to the improvement of forecasts, to undertake a closer study of the temperatures of the ocean.
