Mr. ISalham has been appointed junior assistant and house master of the New Plymouth High School. Dr. Truby King, accompanied by Mrs. King, will arrive in New Plymouth today. The object of the visit is to reorganise the Society for the Health of Women and Children. Mr. G. H. Saunders, of the Empire licturcs, who has been on a holiday tour to Auckland, lldtorua, and IV Aroha, returned to New Plymouth by last evening's mail train. The vacant position of chief secretary to the Salvation Army in Australia has been, filled -by the appointment of Colonel lalstra, who is at present holding a similar position in Holland. Colonsl lalstra has had a long and successful earner in the Salvation Army, but is new to Australia. He is -expected to arrive in Melbourne early in October next. The Southland Times announces thi death of Mr. P. W. Wade, the oldest member of the legal professiou in Invercargill. Mr. Wade was closely idenMod with the early history of Southland. He took an active part in -everything relating to the interest? of the town and district, and was keenly interested in sport in all its branches.' He was in his seventy-fourth year.
