CARRIAGE OF TIMBER.

NO REDUCTION. By Telegraph—Own Correspondent. Wellington, Wednesday. A deputation representing about forty sawmills, situated near the Main Trunk line, waited on the Minister of Railways to-day with the request that certain anomalies in the rates charged on the carriage of timber by rail from the Main Trunk eountry, as compared: with Rotorua and other lines, should be removed. The Minister said he could hold out no hope of the request being granted, if it meant any reduction in railway revenue, so great were the charges to be met this year. The wh«le question" of differential rates would have to be gone into, but the matter would be held over until the new general manager was appointed.
