THE EGMONT SEAT.
QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT. In the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Mr. G. W. Russell (Avon) asked whether the Prime Minister would make a statement to the House about the date of the Egmont election. He had heard that the writ was issued for such an early date as to preclude the possibility of a second ballot, and the return of absent voters' permits. The Hon. W. F. Mnsscy (Prime Minister) said he had taken no part in the matter except to move for the issuo of the writ. He had not interfered with the Chief Electoral Officer, and he did not even now know the date fixed. Mr. Russell informed him that it was September 17. MR. WILKINSON AT MANAIA. The Reform candidate for Egmont, Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, addressed a large meeting al Manaia on Tuesday evening, and made a good impression upon the audience h\- his forceful and straightforward political policy. The candidate was given an attentive hearing, and at the conclusion of his address was accorded a hearty vote of thanks on the motion of Messrs. Hair and A. Mitchell. A number of questions were dealt with in a satisfactory manner, and the meeting was a very successful one in every way. A large and influential committee was formed, of which Mr. J. Hunt was elected chairman and Mr. O. S. Meuli secretary. There wore many requests made for the candidate to come back to Mannaia before, the election took place.
