Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Brown left Chicago on the Kith inst. for London. Mr. E. IT. Campbell, of the Whangamoraona Hotel, is seriously indisposed and is confined to bed. Mr. James Hawkins, of the firm of Hawkins and Smith, New Plymouth, is at present n visitor to Wellington. Out of seven applications before the Wanganui Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday Dr. ilatherlcy was appointed medical superintendent of the Wanganui Hospital. Mr. Frank Reed, chief engineer of tine Mines Department, is at present in town in connection with the claim for the second instalment of the Covernment bonus on oil won at Moturoa. An old settler of the Waverley district, Mr. Donald McDonald, passed away on Monday, after a 'brief illness, aged 7(i years. He came to New Zealand in 1863, and for thirty years lived in the Waverley district. Mr. Joseph Francis Fabian, whose death took place at, his residence in Gill street on Tuesday, was born in Jersey in 1843. He came to the Dominion at an early age, and after 3(i years' service in the Post and Telegraph Department he retired in 1904, sind .since that time ■has resided in New Plymouth. Mr. A. Gray, head teacher at Opunake School, and at one time assistant at the Central School, was yesterday appointed director of technical education in the Taranaki education district. The ooard received seven applications for the position. One was from New South Wales, one from Eltham, one from Nelson, one from Wellington, and another from Napier.
