General Mangin surprised one of El Hiba's encampments in the vicinity of Suk-el-Arba and routed his forces "with the bayonet. Native advices state that El Hiba has lift Marakesh and gone north. El Glawi handed him the Frenchmen who were cut off in Marakesh, El Hiba promising to escort them to the coast. SPAIN'S INTERFERENCE. A PROTEST FROM FRANCE. Received 27. 10.45 p.m. Paris, August 27. France has remonstrated with Spain owing to the Consul's support of Elhiba's agents and Spanish proteges conducting an active trade in contraband arms. Elhiba's six thousand well-equipped tribesmen include many of Mulai Hand's French-trained soldiers who deserted in April. Tii? French are anxious as to the fate of their compatriots entrusted to Elhiba. Many new-papers are urging drastic action, even to the extent of sending an extra twenty thousand reinforcements.
