HIRED APPLAUSE.
CLAQUE IN LONDON THEATRES. London, August 18. With the closing of the Alhambrt Variety Theatre for the summer vacation the last of the paid "claques," or organised teams of clappers, has disappeared from London. The practice has, however, been discontinued by one theatre after another, and the Alhambra has teen the last to give way.
