CAPITAL AND LABOR. By Cable—Press Association—Copyririt. Received 25, 5.5 p.m. New York, August 24. President Taft has signed the Bill for the creation of an industrial commission throughout the country, to investigate the conditions governing labor, with a view to the establishment of more amicable relations between capital and labor. ACCUSATIONS AGAINST ROOSEVELT. THE STANDARD OIL COMPANY. Received 25, 5.5 p.m. New York, August 24. Mr. Archbold, president of the Standard Oil Company, giving evidence before the Campaign Contributions Committee, said that Mr. Roosevelt had tried extortion during his second administration, because the Trust failed to contribute enough money towards his campaign. Witness declared that Roosevelt's attacks on the Standard Oil Company directly resulted in the deaths of Mr. Henry Rogers and Mr. Henry Gifford, two of the directors of the" company. Mr. Archbold admitted that .the company contributed £25,000 towards the Presidential campaign in 1904.
