He was born in Paris in ISitl, and had been a boxer for five years. He had engaged in about 2RO fights, and had never even been knocked down. He had won 175 of these engagements, knocking out 100 of his opponents. The boxing game, he says, is very popular in France, and likely to become even more so. Mr P. J. Cook (says the Christchureh Press) has received a letter from a. wellknown New Zealand sportsman at present visiting Sydney offering considerable inducements for S. Fitzsimmons, the present amateur heavy-weight champion of New Zealand to join the professional ranks. Tile idea is to provide funds towards which the writer guarantees £SO to enable Fitzsimmons (who is a nephew of the famous "Bob*') to place himself under the tutelage of Sam McVea, the clover colored boxer now in Sydney. If the Timaruvian showed sufficient promise after coaching Mr !T. D. Mcintosh, proprietor of the Stadium, would provide suitable matches for him. Fit'.'.shninous is leaving shortly for Brisbane to represent New Zealand at the Australian championships next month.
