WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD

i | MONTHLY MEETING. I At the monthly meeting of the above | Board there were present: Messrs J. ( Connett (chairman), Hall, Lepper, Surrey and Turnbull. Correspondence was read from the Australian Hardwood Co., stating that ironbark timber for the Mangawera bridge had been ordered irom Sydney; and from the Treasury, stating that the resolution re Bertr'and road loan had been gazetted. Mr. Richards attended the meeting re his Cross road contract, and offered to pay for loading if the Board would pay for spreading. Mr. L. Connett waited on the Board and requested that the Lower Te Arei road be repaired. Mr.' W. Free attended and complained of the drain which had been cleaned out on the Karaka road. Surfaceman Palmer reported that he had been engaged most of the month in letting water off the metal, and filling in holes in the same. Surfaceman Giddy reported that he had been cleaning water-tables on various roads, and had also been getting metal from Sampson's pit for repairing le Arei road. ° The chairman reported that he had arranged with Haskell and Co. to deliver a further 50 yards of metal for the Manutahi West road at 4s 6d per yard I with an additional fid for anv Which might be required on the Corbett road rlie clerk reported that no tenders had been received for the boxing tim- I ber, and Mr. Lepper agreed to take the same at the upset price. ,/fr.. Ua!l sported that he had seen ■Mr. luckard re shifting his entrance gate on the Richmond road, and that there would, be no saving in pipes if he did so, and it was resolved to put in the pipes the whole width of the road, provided Mr. Richard will pay half the cost of same.

The clerk was directed to allocate to each road the rates collected on same and also the Government subsidy, and it was decided to invite tenders for the required metal at next meeting. Accounts amounting to £97 were passed for payment, and-the Board adjourn-
