POLITICAL NOTES.
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL REFORM. Writes a member of Parliament to a New Plymouth friend: —"The Council is now busy upon its own Reform Bill. I don't know whether you have studied it, but a careful perusal convinces me that under its provisions men like Scrapie, Savage and King have an excellent opportunity of becoming Legislative Councillors. The Bill plays right into the hands of Labor. I don't think the farmers have yet recognised the effect that the measure must have. Two elective Houses is an abortion. However, I think the farmers will get a start when they are alive to the real potentialities of the proposed measure. I 'think the best thing the Council can do is' to pass the Bill, and let Massey accept the consequences."
