CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION. A BITTER DEBATE. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Received 24, 12.35 a.m. New York, August 23. The Senatorial sub-committee is investigating the campaign contributions. A bitter debate ensued. President Roosevelt is accused of knowing that funds contributed by trusts helped to elect him.
Senator Penrose asserted that Perkins and his associates underwrote three million dollars to nominate Roosevelt. The committee decided to examine Archbold and others involved. Senator Reed declared: "We intend to show the people that Roosevelt's hands are most thoroughly tarred."
