At a meeting of the Sarawak Council the Rajah outlined a scheme for a Council in London for the purpose of supporting the Government against the intrigue in Europe injuring her independence and integrity. EXTENSIVE EMBEZZLEMENT. Received 24, 12.50 a.m. Berlin, August 23. An official named Scholffhausen, cmployed in a bank, embezzled £BSOO in Prussian consols. He was arrested while attempting to commit suicide. ' A NEW ZEALANDER IN TROUBLE. Received 23, 10.15 p.m. S/dney, August 23. A young man named Arthur Christy has been sentenced to six months' imprisonment on a charge of being a suspected person. The police claimed that he is identical with a man from New Zealand, against whom there are a'number of convictions. Christy denied this, but declined to enttr the witness-box.

The president of the Master Butchers' Association informed the Food Commisiion that there is no chance of a decrease in the price of meat owing to the supply of stock not keeping pace with the increase of population. UNDESIRABLE ALIENS. Received 24. 12.00 a.m. Paris. August 215. Fifteen Svrinn emigrants landed at Cherbourg from America and travelled overland to Marseilles, where they were found to be suffering from yellow fever.
