Mr. Bramwell Bootii, interviewed, said that the spirit of the Salvation Army would be unchanged, but new methods Would be employed. The Army had an Undefined personality, alone, but in a spirit that worked throughout its rank. There was still immense work to do amongst the lowest strata. He believes that the Army will in future obtain some measure of control over all unfortunate cases from Home, which were sent abroad. Another new field is China, where investigations are proceeding. He hoped to develop a scheme to help poor widows, with families, by sending them to the colonies.
Queen Alexandra, in a message to Mr. Booth, regretted the loss of his great, good and never-to-be-forgotten father, which was felt throughout the civilised world, but, thank God, his work would live for ever.
The King of Sweden, President Taft, General Botha, Lord Islington, Mr. Alfred Deakin, and the Hon. Mr. Massey telegraphed their sympathy. SYDNEY SERVICES. Sydney, August 23. Memorial services for General tfooth are being arranged for Thursday. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN SYMPATHY. Adelaide, August 23. The Assembly, on the motion of the Premier, seconded by Mr. Verran, late Premier, placed on record its high appreciation of General Booth's work for humanity. Both paid tributes to the General's work. The Premier described him as one of the greatest moral, religious and social forces of the present age. MESSAGE TO MR. DEAKLN. Melbourne, August 23.
Mr. Deakin has received from Mr. Bramwell Booth a message as follows: "With the deepest sorrow I announce that the General has laid down the sword. Pray for me."
Mr. Deakin replied: "The sincerest sympathy is universal here."
