A SHIPPING PROTEST. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, August 22. The Australian ' Steamship Owners' Federation has sent a letter to Mr. Tudor pointing out that the provisions of the Navigation Bill now before the House will involve an extra outlay of £II,OOO per annum for ships now on the coast, and in addition to this shipowners' liability for sick and injured seamen will be greatly augmented. The carrying capacity o"f vessels will be largely reduced, 'owing to the owners having to provide extra accommodation for the crews. The ship-owners have no desire to oppose anything reasonable for the safety, and comfort of workers or the travelling public, and simply ask that vessels, of whatever nationality, engaged in the coastal trade shall comply with the provisions of the Act and pay the wages ruling on Australian vessels, so as to prevent unfair competition,
