THE LIGHT-WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. In a fifteen-round contest for the professional light-weight championship of New Zealand Len Porter, of Hastings, defeated Peter Cook, of Australia, on points. The contest went the full IS rounds at a merry pace all the way. Porter was the cleverer fighter, and did most of the leading, but Cook had an excellent defence. The verdict was most popular with an auidence of over a thounsand people. Watchorn (Palmerston N.) easily beat Minnifie (Wellington) in the "welter weights in a six-round contest. In the light-weights, J. Kersel (Palmerston N.) beat Twomey (Wellington) in a six-round bout. Twomey was disqualified in the fifth round for holding. Mr. Samson, of Wellington, was judge.
