POLITICAL NOTES.
POLITICAL SECTARIANISM. By Telegraph—Own Correspondent. Wellington, Last Night. In the course of his speech on the Budget to-day, Mr. E, Scott (Central Otago) referred to the attempts made to raise sectarian feeling during the last election. Where such tilings had taken place, he said, the followers of the late Government were to blame. The Government candidate in his electorate was taken round the district by Catholic priests. He did not have a Presbyterian clergyman or any other person to take him round. He fought the battle on his own account, and regretted exceedingly that sectarian matters had been spoken of in connection with Sir Joseph Ward's name, because Sir Joseph was a man for whom he had the highest respect. He repeated that he regretted these questions had been introduced into the election, and he felt it very much at the time, so much so that he had made up his mind to make reference to the matter in the House.
