LOST ON THE MOUNTAIN.

THREE VISITORS MISSING. SEARCH PARTIES ORGANISED. A telephone message received from the North Egmont Mountain House at 8 o'clock last night states that a party of thnvo visitors are missing on the mountain. They include Mr. Percy Athos and Madame Read and a, huh- friend. Athos ami Read are the Australian champion skaters and equilibrists who have been appearing at the skating rink in New Plymouth.

It appears that the three mis&ing people motored out to the Mountain House yesterday morning with some friends, and in the afternoon proposed to visit the Crow's Nest. Others of the party not liking the prospect declined to undertake the trip, and the three set off alone.

When dusk arrived and they had not returned, some anxiety began'to be felt as tec their safe ty, and early in the evening a searcli party was organised to go to- their assistance, it being feared that they had wandered from the track. The night being bitterly cold the gravest apprehension is felt 'as to the fate of the missing visitors. It is stated that the snow has not been deeper and lower on the mountain slopes for many years. (By Telephone.) Tahurangi, Midnight. The caretaker of the Mountain House has just returned for fresh lights, the lights of the search party having given out. He reports that the searchers "fancied hearing cooee-irig in the neighborhood of . the Waiwakaiho Gorge, which is some distance away, and this will now be made the immediate objective of' their search. A supply of food and drink is also being taken. . The third member of the missing party is Miss Elson, of Hawera.. They are all reported to be warmly clad, and fene is evory hope of their being shortly rescued.
