THE KAITANGATA STRIKE. By Telegraph—Press AtsMiiriUa. Dunedin, Last Night. Mr. J. Howard, a member of the executive of the Federation of Labor, addressed a meeting of strikers at Kaitangata to-day. . About forty-five men were present. At the conclusion of the ' * address a deputation from the men waited on Messrs. Lee (manager of the company) and Carson (mine manager) and asked if the striker* would be al- ~;' lowed to go back to work in a body. , I ' This request was refused, the men. being informed that they would have to make individual applications. The men then i asked for a list of those whom the company did not intend to employ again, and this also was refused. The employers, interviewed, deny that they had any intention of refusing employment to any man who applied in the ordinary way. On Thursday nine strikers joined the Arbitration Union, and they started; work to-day. Twelve men signed on under these conditions to-day, and will start work to-morrow. There are about one hundred men still on strike.
