THE JOINT CONFERENCE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright, Received IS, 11.50 p.m. Washington, August- 15, The joint conference cancelled the Senate provision which gave a free passage through the Panama Canal to American ships engaged in foreign traMe. An amendment embracing the Senate's general principle was adopted, covering railroad' owned ships and the relations between railroads and steamship lines, the prohibition of trust-owned ships remaining and also a free passage to American coasting vessels.
