IMPERIAL POLITICS.
A WELSH BY-ELECTION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, August 14. Dr. Williams (Laborite) is actively contesting the by-election for East Carmarthen against Mr. Mervyn Peel (Unionist) and) Mr. Jones (Liberal). THE MIDLOTHIAN SEAT. Received 15, 10.10 p.m. London. August 14. Lord Elibank, in a letter to the Times, says that his recommendation of Mr. Brown was due to a conviction that a majority of the miners were using a moderating and restraining influence within the Labor movement. When the immediate irritation of the Midlothian contest had passed, perhaps it was possible that those in authority in the constituencies would widen their outlook and consider how to embrace within the Liberal ranks the best democratic forces •f the land. He concludes by hoping that the miners will not press Mr. Brown.
