ACCLIMATISATION.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE. By Telegraph—Prees Assoeiafcio. Wellington, Wednesday. The annual conference of the New Zealand Acclimatisation Societies' Association opened to-day. The president (Mr. Tripp) laid stress on the difficulty of keeping sanctuaries secure from the depredations of weasels and stoats. He noted a certain deterioration in the fish, and suggested the appointment of a scientific fish expert as adviser to the Government to consider the whole problem of fish. He also referred to the question of charging non-residents of the Dominion higher sporting and fishing license fees than those paid by residents. In the discussion that followed, reference was made by several speakers to the havoc made by shags among the fish, and the suggestion was made that shags should be destroyed during the breeding season. Mr. L. Tripp was re-elected president, and Mr. C. Fitzroy vice-president. The council appointed was as follows: Lieut.-Col. Hazard (Auckland), Dr. Moorhouse (Canterbury), H. Southey (Tauranga), W. Polland (Marlborough), C. Chamberlain and W. G. Mcintosh (Otago). W. Aspinall (South Canterbury), E. Russell (Southland), W. Kirkwood (Stratford):, J. Wilson (Taranaki), E. Liffiton (Wanganui), A.
