THE TERRITORIALS.
MORE PASSIVE REGISTERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Nelson, Last Night. Several informations were heard at Urightwater to-day against. Territorials for failing to take the oath and failure to attend camp. All the cases were defended. The defence, raised was that the Territorials would not be recruited from anywhere except a general training section, and were not required to take the oath prescribed by the regulations. With regard to the charges of failing to attend camp, Magistrate Evans drew attention to the wording of section 51 of the Act, and questioned whether the penalties of the section applied to Territorials. Judgment was reserved ill all cases. His Worship said that the Department should be represented by counsel, as the points affected the whole administration of the Act. An employer was fined £1 and costs for preventing an employee from rendering service.
