' CIIRISTCHURCH SESSIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Cliristchureh, Last Night. Tiie criminal sittings of the Supreme Court opened this morning before Mr. Justice Denniston. Michael McGrath came up for sentence on a charge of forgery and uttering, and was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment, lie was warned that he was rapidly approaching the status of an habitual offender. Harry Jackson, a young man, pleaded guilty (1) that between November 12, 1911, and December 1, 1911, he received various sums of money, amounting in all to £7 9s 3d. in terms requiring him to account for and pay the same to his employers, Messrs. Neil & Co., did fraudulently convert the same to his own use, and thereby commit the crime of theft; (2) that between September 15, 1911, and April 20, 1912, he did receive and fraudulently convert to his own use various sums of money, amounting in all to £313 12s 4d; and (3) that on various dates between October 20, 1911, and June 1, 1912, he did receive and fraudulently convert to his own use £llO 7s 4d. He was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment. Patrick MoClusky and Thomas Collins both pleaded guilty to having on May 11, at Cliristchureh, assaulted and robbed one George Robert Francis Miles. McCluskey was sentenced to three months' imprisonment and Collins to six months', His Honor taking into consideration the fact that they had been in gaol for three months, and that it was McClusky's first offence. Albert David Williams Clements pleaded not guilty to having on June 3, at Christchurch, committed an assault upon Henry Symons, whereby he killed Symons. Prisoner also pleaded not guilty to a minor count of assaulting Symons. lie was convicted, and sentence was postponed until tomorrow. Timothy Twomey was convicted of stealing a greenstone brooch and purse from a woman. A further charge of stealing a rolled gold watch was adjourned till to-morrow.
DIVORCE CASES. Auckland, Wednesday. In the Supreme Court a decree nisi was granted in the case of John Simpson ITavward v. Elizabeth Hayward, for misconduct.
