The State Department has heen advised that the rebels attacked a passenger train ambushed in a canyon near Ticuman, and shot down 30 soldiers aboard in cold blood, massacred twenty passengers, and robbed the bodies. The train was burnt to ashes. After the massacre two members of the train crew escaped, wounded, and reported the tragedy: The bodies recovered had their fingers chopped off. Evidently the robbers mutilated the dead to obtain jewellery. J
