PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting was held,, as above. Present: Messrs J. Young (chairman), Harvey, Ducker and Willcox. Mr. Willcox gave notice of motion that all loans on roads be consolidated. Mr. Willcox brought up the matter of ' casual labor, which appeared to be large this month after instructions had been given to cease it.—The foreman reported that the amounts for labor were incurred prior to the instructions to put off casual labor. FOREMAN'S REPORT. Foreman J. P, Kennedy reported:— Opua road —Repairs to the bottom end are now in progress. The carting out of ■. boulder stone is just on completion. The I stone will be broken and put on to the I weak parts right away. » Nineteen chains of drain have been] cleaned out by Mr. G. Feaver on his frontage at 3s per chain. The Board j pays half cost. I Upper Kina road—Bad places have { been repaired for the time being. Cape road —Repairs to this road have been carried out. About 150 yards were carted out by the settlers. This has been broken and spread, and the road is now in fair order, with the exception of a few places by Mr. M. Fleming's. Mr. Thomas, with a man and a dray, has put in two days repairing the part from the pit to the main road. I understand this is all he is going to do, as requested by the Egmont County Council. Te Namu road —Work authorised in conjunction with Mr. C. Humphries is now in progress. Ihaia road —Repairs have been done from top to bottom. From Mr. Affleck's upwards'the road is in very fair order, and downwards the road has been repaired with boulder stone. There are still a few weak parte left, but there is sufficient stone carted out for repairs to be made later on. For the bottom end it was very difficult to get stone, some having to be carted from the township. I engaged Mr. G. Vickery to cart 72yds of stone. Bayly road—Pipes have been carted out for the filling on the bottom end. Work is now in progress, and repairs to the top end will be done. Stent road—Repairs have been done i from the main road downwards. All available metal is exhausted. The road is breaking up by Mr. Sole's. I would' ask the Board to allow 100 yds of boulders to be carted out. Opourapa road—Repairing is to be j done right away. Upper Kahui road—There are a few bad holes, but I will attend to these in a few days. Repairs to the top end will be proceeded with as soon as the Opourapa repairing has been done. I recommend that the timber from the old bridge be sold.—The timber is to be sold; left in the hands of the foreman to dispose of it. Warea road—Repairs have been made to the bad parts. Mr. T. Julian has carted out stone as promised at last meeting. Pipes delivered this month—Bayly road, nine 12in; Upper Kahui, ten 36in; Mr. C. Jeffries, twenty 12in. GENERAL. Mr. Kitchingman was prepared to take the gravel reserve on Kahui road at 8s per acre from January I.—Accepted. Mr. Willcox reported that the Council had given notice to the contractor in reference to the damage on this roadLeft to Messrs Harvey and Willcox. Mr. D. Grcenaway was given 14 days' notice to put his fence in the right place. Failing this, the Board will remove the fence off the road. The Public Trustee's Agent, in answer to the, Board',s offer to buy the strip of land not required by the Board, wrote that he could not see any advantage to the tenants in buying the land now that thev shifted back'their fences—The Publie Trustee is to be written to, explaining the position, and ask him if he could see liis way to purchase it.—lt was reported that the natives had not erected their fences. Accounts amounting to £212 were passed for payment—Opunake Times.
