NEW SOUTII WALKS (19) v. QUEENSLAND (4). By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Received 11, 5.5 p.m. At rthe Rugby League game, New South Wales defeated Queensland by 19 points to 4. CANTERBURY .JUNIORS (11) t. COUNTRY TEAM (9). By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Teams representing Canterbury juniors and the Kaikouru, Wairau, and Cheviot districts met yesterday afternoon, and after an even game Canterbury won by, 11 points to 9. CANTERBURY 20 v. SOUTHLAND 3. Cliristchurdi, Last Night. Tho twentieth interprovincial matoh between Southland and Canterbury attracted a good attendance of the public, and the ground was in capital order. Southland's inability to beat Canterbury, more particularly at Lancaster Park, has become notorious, and this year's team was unable to break the succession of defeats. The game opened in bright and attractive fashion, and the Canterbury backs, thanks chiefly to some brilliant work by Gray, quickly rattled up a score that made the result fairly safe. In the second half the visitors showed considerable improvement, but they did not make the most of their chances, and in the loose Tushes their forwards spoilt a lot of good work by overrunning the ball and kicking too hard. The Canterbury pack generally gave a good display, and had the better of the close work, lile the home team's backs were more effective in their combination than the visitors. Two features of the visitor's back work were the clever display of Henderson at half and Dalgleish's remarkably safe tackling. The scores were Canterbury 20 points (a goal from a try, a penalty goal, and four tries), Southland 3 points (one try).

WAIRARAPA 11 v. BUSH TEAM 8. Masterton, Last Night. The first representative match of the season was played here yesterday in fine weather. There was a good attendance. WaiTarapa met t'he Bush team. The game was very evenly contested, the visitors 'having, if anything, the best of matters. The home team, especially the backs, were off color. The Bush backs were very safe and showed good line kicking. The first spell ended 5 points each, a converted try by Sam (Bush) and a converted try by Sievers (Wairarapa). The second spell was confined to tire forwards. Two penalty goals were kicked for Wairarapa by sandel and Sam kicked a gaol for the Bush. The final scores were: Wairarapa 11, Bush 8. WELLINGTON MATCHES. i Wellington, Last Night. The weather was fine yesterday for , outdoor sports. The following are the results of the Rugby senior championship - matches:—Petone beat Oriental by 5 points to 3. Athletic beat Melrose 1G to 8, Poneke beat Victoria College 12 to nil, St. James beat Southern 12 to 3. WELLINGTON JUNIORS 42 v. WAIRARAPA JUNIORS 3. Wellington', Last Night. The principal Rugby attraction was the match at Alexandra Park between Auckland and the New Zealand Native team. The attendance was about 2000. The play was not very interesting, the Native team being outclassed. In the first quarter Auckland scored three points, Weston being the scorer. The second quarter was all in favor of the local men. Tries were scored by Stewart, Carroll and Macky, two being converted by Walshe. Thence on till no side the natives continued on the defence. Macky scored behind the posts, Walshe converting, and F. Iferson placed a penalty goal, and a final try was scored by O'Leary. Final scores: Auckland 27, < Natives 0.

HIGH SCHOOL 19 v. OLD BOYS 8. An annual fixture, New Plymouth High School v. Old Boys, took place on the Bacecourse on Saturday afternoon. The game, although at times ragged, was on the whole a fairly interesting contest, the schoolboys being responsible for some good combined work. The younger boys played better Rugby than their seniors, who were at the disadvantage of never having played together before as a team. Tliii respective forwards packs were about, on a par with each ottjier, it hi seniors, however, securing the ball from t.'he scrum more often than their opponents. Of the backs there was little doubt that High Sdiool were superior. They played with splendid combination, »ome of the passing rushes being very pretty to watch. They seem to have eliminated the bad habit displayed in their match against the Stratford High School of indulging in stationary passing bouts. All things considered, for their size they are an excellent fifteen, and it is pleasing to think of the promising material coming on to some day help to make up our senior teams. Old Boys electrified the School by scoring' almost ! immediately after the kick-oil' through the agency of Reid. Osborne converted with a good kick. The boys, however I were by no means disheartened, and by half-time had caught up to and passed their opponents' score of five points, the figures being High School 11, Old Boys 5. Tries were obtained for School by Ewing (converted by Colson), Ifur.st, and Bruce. In the second half Clarke ran ! through the school team and scored a try, which Osborne made a. very poor I attempt to convert.—School 11, Old Boys I 8. Then Goss notched aanother try for School, which Colson converted, making! the score 10— S. Little followed up with another try. Goss failed to convert, and ! the game ended School 19, Old Hoys S. I Mr. Johnston was referee. |
