BURNS DEFEATS RICKARD.

Ottawa, August 9. At Saskatoon Tommy Burns defeated Bill Rickard in the sixth of a fifteenround match. Burns played with his opponent until the sixth round, knocking him down once for nine seconds and again for eight, when Sheriff Calder stopped the fight. Rickard failed to show even second-rate form. Burns ■weighed 1851b, and Rickard 2051b. JOHNSON'S INTENTIONS. New York, August 9. Alderman A. L. Tearney said to-night ot Chicago that ten thousand dollars had been deposited with him for Johnson to fight in Australia. Johnson refused to affirm the report, but added that he would enter the ring as a personal favor to Alderman Tearnsv.
