Ohristchureh, Friday. Mr. Bailey, S.M., gave an important judgment in the case against Charles Arnold Campin, who was charged with Slaving refused to take the oath under the Defence Act. The magistrate said the oath of allegiance set out in section 11 of the Act did not give authority for prescribing the oath by regulation or for punishing a refuser. The Act was a penal one, and had 1 to he construed strictly. The case was dismissed.
