The Department of External Affairs has been informed by its commercial agent at Capetown that there are, chances of developing a ifcrade between Australia and South Africa, particularly in tinned corned beef, other meats, tinned fruit, and condensed milk. The representative of a Hamburg firm informed the agent that there are good prospects of a large trade in Australian tinned meats with German South-West Africa-. IMMIGRATION" STATISTICS. Melbourne, August 9. For the six months ended June 30 84,252 persons arrived in Australia, against 05,243 for the same period in 1911. The, departures numbered 40,467 against 44,802. The Inspector-General of the Military Forces, in the course of his annual report, says that there are instances of senior cadets being passed who by no human possibility win develop sufficiently in time to be available to pass for the citizen forces.
