The Liberals failed to confine the issue to tariff reform. The defeat was primarily due to a dislike to the Insurance Bill, particularly to the clerk class, which the business section disliked, and Mr. Lloyd George's finance. Six hundred cars brought voters from holiday resorts. A correspondent of the Times suggests the adoption of New Zealand's system of absent voters' permits'.
