A GREAT COPPER FIND

LOST HORSES LEAD TO DISCOVERY.. Sydney, July 1. "' What has been described as a mountain of copper has just been found in the Cloncurry district, a general assay giving a return of 30 per cent. It lias been stated that the discoverer of Mount Elliott, which was then known as Green flap—the late Mr. Elliott—had often sii'uh that he knew of a richer place' thanGreen Gap (Mount Elliott); but Mr. Elliott passed away without divulging its' whereabouts. It is thought that this new And is the one mentioned by him. It seems extraordinary that this outcrop has not been "placed" before now. Asked how he discovered the outcrop, Mr. Smith, one ol the finders, replied: "I had just come over from Winton, and, had camped 12 miles from the Cloncurry township on the railway line. The following morning I had lost three o'f my horses, and thinking that they would: make their way back towards Winton. 1 went in that direction in search of them. After travelling ten miles south I eam« across horse tracks, which I followed. These led me into a gorge. Shortly after I had picked up the tracks my eye caught sight of a great green-stained stone. I: dismounted, and looked the outcrop over. I dismounted, and looked the outcrop over. Then I persuaded Charles, niy mate, to have a look at the outcrop, unci we pegged it out." The owners, Messrs Smith and Charles, of Cloncurry, intend putting in a tunnel right from No. if cave, and work is to be commenced right away.
