ENTERTAINMENTS.

EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. _ The brilliant display of pictures at tlic Empire was witnessed last night by a good audience. To-day the management will present an entirely new aeries of | films, first at the matinee in the afternoon at 2.30, and again in the evening at 8 o'clock.' T3ie new programme com- * prises the usual well chosen selection of subjects, all tastes being catered for. A remarkable dramatic subject from th» Edison studios is entitled "A Romanes of the Cliff Dwellers. The securing of this film necessitated much thought, timV and expense. A whole company oJ actors and actresses, together with camera men, etc., journeyed to Manitou (Colorado), and in the actual "Cliff Dwellers' Canyon," amid all the wild and rugged surroundings, enacted the many intense scenes oft this thrilling story. Selig present "The Brotherhood of Man," the gripping story of a young athlete's devotion to his old trainer. "His Secretary" is another Edison story, most beautifully told, and "The Engagement Ring" is an A.B. life portrayal of greafc merit and power, intensely dramatic in thought and acting. Other interesting subject's are "Gaumont Graphic," "A Visit to Senegal" (French Soudan), an<l "Mountain Torrents" (the Coulompj Lower Alps). In lighter vein come "Lulu's Anarchist," >or 'The Dime Novel I?iend" (Vitagrap'h), "The Bo'sun's Watch" (Edison), "The Author," and "Those Hicksville Bovs" (A.8.) .
