«B> SOUTH TARANAKI 18 v. NORTH TARANAKI 7. Very Weak weather conditions prevailed 'for the North v. South match at Stratford yesterday, a cold biting wind making things very unpleasant for both players and those enthusiasts who ventured out to view it. There were a number of defections from both sides, the most noticeable being Cain and Stohr in the North and McLeod and Hunt from the South, their places being filled by Carey and Sheehan in the North, anil George and Pini in the South. The game was not conspicuous for any particularly brilliant play, though there were some fine forward dashes, and also some nice passing movements, which, however, were marred by faulty handling. This was more noticeable in the Northerners, the Southerners combining much better. The match was not as one-sided as tho scores indicate, but the Southern backs made more use of their opportunities, and as their forwards were securing the ball in the absence of Cain, Colrnan was able to set them moving fairly often. Playing with the wind the Northerners had the better of matter.-, and scored nil their point*, Stewart potting a magnificent goal, whilst Sheehan scored a try after a nice opening by Don Cameron, who passed to Kupe. The latter trans- ' ferred badly, but Sheehan gathered from < the ground, l>eat George, and scored. ■ Cameron failed with the kick. In the [ second spell the Southerners attacked strongly, and Stewart was kept busy. The first score went to Taylor's account. Taking the ball froin Uirehall, he was collared on the lino too late. The kick failed. Knocks-on were frequent. The next score went to Lynskey, after a gr«at opening by S. Cameron. Whitaker and McAllum were prominent in removing play to their opponents' territory, and George was compelled to get down. Pini again saved a little later. Towards tire end of the game the Northerners were forced on several occasions, whilst Roberts and S. Cameron scored tries. Franklin was in line kicking form, converting three of them, and the game ended as above. Mr. F. Spurdle was referee. Messrs. Jas. McLeod and A. Lees were line umpires.

It was resolved to inform them I that there is no date available until j September 28, unless Auckland do not send a team on 'September 10. The matter of '.-hinging the venue of the Canterbury match from Stratford to New Plymouth was brought forward by the chairman, tout as the feeling of the majority of the members was that of the three important matches, Wellington, Otago and Canterbury, one.should be played in each of the northern and southern ends, and the third in a central position.
