She was married ia 1870, and is survived by five sons and live daughters—Messrs. 0. E. and S. A. Gooding' (Taranalri), Stun. Gooding (Palmerston), Wallace Gooding; Bruoe Gooding (Stratford), Mesdames Crabb (Ofcaki), Palmer (Wellington), F. Dunn (Ohakune), I. West (Tikorangi), and Miss Myra Gooding (Otaki). The Hon. Maurice Baring arrived in J Wellington on Wednesday from London, via >Sydney, by the Maunganui, on a visit to New Zealand. He is the guest of his Excellency the Governor during his stay in Wellington, The Hon. Maurice Baring, who is a son of Lord l!erolstoke, is a journalist and author of considerable repute. Born in 1874, after studying at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, ho entered the diplomatic service in 1808, when he was Attache to the British Embassy. Two years later ibo wa.V transferred to Copenhagen, and- thence to Rome. For a year he was employed in the Foreign Office. Iu 1904 he. acted as war correspondent of the Morning Post in Manchuria, and,as special correspondent for the same paper in Russia from 1905-8, and in Constantinople in 190!). His publications include "With the Russians in Manchuria," "Sonnet 9 and Short Poems," "Thoughts on Art and Life of Leonardo da Vinci," "Russian Essays and Stories," "Orpheus in Mayfair," "Dead Letters," and "Diminutive i Dramas."
