SHORTAGE OF TEACHERS
SOUTHLAND'S EXPERIENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargi.il, Last Night. , At ii meeting of the SoutMnml Education Board to-day a motion was passed calling the attention of the Department to the inadequacy of the present facilities for training teachers in the Southland district. It was decided to consult the Department as to Hie probability of meeting the dillieulty by the importation of teachers. If the Department is unfavorable to importation, it will he requested to assist financially in the establishment of two model schools in the district. The chairman (Mr. D. Gilchrkt)_ said that it was not worth white importing incompetent teachers, and it was not likely that competent teachers arriving in this country would submit to being sent to the backblocks.
