DISASTROUS FIRE.
£20,000 DAMAGE. By Cable—Press Association—Cap/right. Received 30, !1.55 p.m. .Melbourne, July 30. A fire at Stone's timber yards, at Fitzroy, covering three acres, destroyed timber and machinery to the value of £20,000. The Town Hall and a row of cottages across th« street were badly damaged. The inmates escaped in their night attire. There were several narrow escapes. The police headquarters a.t the Town Hall, where a number of constables were sleeping, caught fire, and ono constable was rescued in an unconscious condition. Prisoners in th« cells had a hot time, but were removed in safety.
