POLICE GRAFT.
CORRUPTION" IN" NEW YORK. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. New York, July 26. Investigation held as a result of the murder of Hermann Rosenthal, a gambler who was about to denounce the police for "graft" operations, showed that no gambling dens can remain open in New York unless with the connivance of policemen, who received large sums in favor of "graft."
District Attorney Whitman asserts that every man participating in the Rosenthal crime had been located except one. The chauffeur of the automobile wherein the assassins escaped confessed their identity.
The authorities are giving the men the "third degree" with the object of securing full details of the crime. Xew York is greatly worked up over the case, which reveals unparalleled corruption in the police force.
