VESSEL BREAKING UP. By Telegraph—Presi Aas»*iation. Gisborne, Thursday. The heavy squall yesterday and to-day resulted in further considerable strain on the Star of Canada, and necessitated the suspension of operations in various directions. The »peeial hatch which was placed on Xo. i hold to confine the water to the lower decks was burst upwards by the force of the water from below, the heavy beams bfing shattered. It is expected that the balance of the grain cargo will be jettisoned to-day. An attempt lias been made to salvage the bullion, valued at £25,000, at the bottom of No. 3 hold.
