CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston Forth, Last Night. The Wellington Provincial five miles cross country championship was decided here to-day, starting- and ending on the Show Ground, and covering five miles of f country very heavy from the rains which fell during the day. The competitors I'.ad to go through water waist-high in places, and some fell in up to their necks. Notwithstanding this, the time were excellent. The winner turned up in Jack Bradbury, ex-New Zealand champion, entered from Masterton, in 32min. 18sec. F. Bryne (Brooklyn) was next in 32min. 42sec., W. Press (Wellington) third in 33mm. 4see. L. Cook (Masterton), P. J. Burrcll (Brooklyn) W. B. Bennett (Wellington), A. Olli'ver (Brooklyn) and F. Lowe (Feilding) finished in that order. Fifty-three started, and 31 finished. Lowe won the sealed handicap, and Masterton the team event. .At a meeting held in the forenoon, Feilding was given the option of the next Wellington country championships athletic meeting.
