AUSTRALIA v. HAMPSHIRE. j By Cable—Preis Association—Copyright. London, July 22. The match Australia v. Hampshire was continued to-day. Mead batted | steadily throughout, and with Newman added 45 for the seventh wicket. Sprot and Mead added 34 for the eighth wicket. Sprot batted for ten minutes, find made a sixer and four fourers. The ninth wicket added 47 runs. Remnant batted for 25 minutes. Mead was unbeaten. He had been in for 240 minutes, and gave a faultless and clean display. His score included 25 fours. The second century took 130 minutes, and the innings 200 minutes. Mayne and Jennings opened against the bowling of Brown and Remnant. The batsmen started badly. Mayne was taken sharply at second slip when he had been in for twenty minutes. Jennings then sent a skier to cover, i He had batted for thirty minutes, and scored mainly on the on-side. Soon afterwards Smith was yorked. Bardsley and Kelleway were not separated! when stumps were drawn. The Aus- 1 tralians had been in 45 minutes. Two thousand spectators were present. At the luncheon adjournment the Australians had lost four wickets for 100. The weather was unsettled, and rain fell after the first over. Bardsley had made 41 not out, and Gregory 17. Kelleway was caught by Mead off Kennedy's bowling, having only added a single. The Australians had ninety minutes' play before lunch, rain causing seventy minutes' delay. On resuming, Gregory was taken in the slips. Bardsley added 48 for the sixth wicket, and was bowled by a yorker after 120 minutes' good allround play. He hit a six and a four. Matthews hit up ten in fifteen minutes, but the remainder of the side collapsed except Minnett, who played a vigorous innings for an hour. He hit eight fours. The innings lasted 165 minutes.

The Australians followed on. The weather was bright, and 4000 were present. Jennings and Mayne opened to Browne and Kennedy. The first four wickets went cheaply. Jennings was run out. It was Mayne's fault, and both were at one wicket. Smith was caught from a hot return, and Mayne taken at the wicket. These disasters all occurred in 75 minutes. Bardsley was cleverly caught high up. Kelleway and Gregory made a better stand, and added 85 without being separated. They put on 51 in 40 minutes, and reached the century in 115 minutes.
