TECHNICAL EDUCATION.
PROPOSED OJWUXrSATION. At the meeting of (lie Education Board yesterday Mr. ¥. J. Heatley, who has been acting as technical organiser to the Board with marked success during the past twelve months, forwarded his resignation, owing to having ;i accepted, promotion under the- New South Wales Department. In resigning, he referred to the report of the Departmental Inspector on the day classes at the New Plymouth Technical College, which classes he had had the privilege of organising and carrying on. These, he said, needed special attention, as they were barely beyond the initial stage, but would prove a substantial source of .revenue to the Board. At present the High School did not cater for those whom he had at the college; hence, if the classes were firmly established 'before the coming year, they should be able to continue without fear of overlapping.' -Mr. W. A. riallantyne. Technical Director, also referred to Mr. Heatley's departure, and added that it would, therefore, he necessary to take immediate steps to fill the vacancy. Mr. Heatley had,-continued the report, been acting as superintendent of the New Plymouth Technical College, organiser .of technical work throughout the district, and principal of the. day classes recently'estab- | hshetl in connection with the college. In addition, he had been visiting the. schools twice a year to impart instruction in agriculture and dairy work. Owing to the extra work imposed by 'the establishment of the day classes he was of opinion. that it was-an utter impossibility for any one. person to discharge m-an efficient manner the duties per- ■ taining to the.various positions, and he recommended the reorganisation of the staff*and the work ..as-follows:,— , - "(1) A director of technical education for the district, who shall be responsible for all sjSecial' classes/established, for the -•collection of fees, for,care- of apparatus .and for general control-of all- technical i schools and technical classes throughout ! the, district.
