TARANAKI'S TREASURE.
MR. CONNETT TO MAKE A STATEMENT. The article we republished from the Wellington Times on the subject of the Taranaki ironsand leases was the chief topic of conversation in town yesterday, the unanimous opinion being that tho statements made by the London capitalist to the correspondent of the New Zealand paper call for an early and full reply from the local Harbor Board, as well as an explanation from them as to the real position of the ironsand leases. We interviewed Mr. J. B. Connett, chairman of the Board, on the matter, but that gentleman said he would be unable to furnish anything for publication until he had gone into the matter thoroughly and looked up the correspondence, etc., at the Board's office. He hoped, .however, to have the information ready for our issue to-morrow. Meanwhile he preferred not to commit himself to anything regarding the serious allegations made in the interview against the local Harbor Board.
